# Booking form questions

> Collect information for a visit, with shift and party-size conditions.

Fields under **Settings → Portal → Custom fields** are public questions attached
to a reservation: occasion, baby seat or a special request. For internal
information kept between visits, use
[customer fields](/customers/custom-fields).

## Create a question

1. Click **Add**, name the field and choose its type: text, number, date,
   yes/no, single choice or multiple choice.
2. Enter at least the French or English name, then any other useful languages.
3. Add help text and a placeholder if needed.
4. For a list, add choices with a unique value for each. Numbers can have
   minimum and maximum values; multiple-choice fields can limit the number of
   selections.
5. Choose whether the field is **active** and **required**, then save.

A required field must be filled in when it applies to the form.

## Show it only when useful

Enable **Link to specific shifts** and select those shifts. You can also set
minimum and/or maximum party sizes.

For example, show “Group occasion” from 8 guests on the evening shift. Test an
8-person booking on that shift, then a 2-person booking: the question should
appear only in the first case.

## A field does not appear

Check activation, selected shifts and party-size limits. Make sure you are
testing the correct restaurant. [Activity questions](/activities/fields) belong
to the activities portal; privatization questions belong to their own form.

Deactivate a question you no longer need; deleting it is not necessary to hide
it.
