# Resource Groups

> Resource groups allow you to manage the capacity of your activities flexibly. Learn how to configure your resources to optimize your bookings.

### What is a Resource Group?

A **resource group** represents a set of physical or human resources that can be booked by your customers. For example:

* **Therapists**: 3 massage therapists available to perform treatments
* **Rooms**: 2 private rooms for events
* **Equipment**: 4 tennis courts to book

Each resource group has a **capacity** that determines how many bookings can be accepted simultaneously for the same time slot.

### Why Use Resource Groups?

Resource groups allow you to:

* **Share capacity** between multiple products (e.g., a 30min massage and a 60min massage use the same therapists)
* **Avoid overbooking** by automatically calculating availability
* **Manage different capacities per variant** (e.g., 2 therapists for short massages, 1 for long ones)

### Key Concepts

#### Group Name

Give your group an explicit name for easy identification. Examples:

* "Massage Therapists"
* "Private Rooms"
* "Tennis Courts"

#### Capacity Mode

You can configure capacity in two ways:

1. **Total Capacity**: A global number of resources available for all products in the group
2. **Capacity per Variant**: A different capacity for each product variant

#### Assigned Products

A resource group can contain one or more products. All products in the same group **share** the defined capacity.

### Creating a Resource Group

1. **Access Settings**
   * Go to **Settings** > **Booking Portal** > **Activities**

2. **Open the Resource Groups Section**
   * Locate the **Resource Groups** section on the page

3. **Create a New Group**
   * Click **Add Group**
   * Enter the group name (e.g., "Massage Therapists")

4. **Select Products**
   * Check the products that should share this capacity
   * Selected products will use the same resource pool

5. **Configure Capacity**
   * Choose the capacity mode (total or per variant)
   * Enter the capacity values

6. **Save**
   * Click **Create** to save the group

### Practical Example

Imagine a spa with:

* 3 versatile massage therapists
* 2 products: "Relaxing Massage" and "Sports Massage"

**Configuration:**

1. Create a group "Massage Therapists" with a total capacity of 3
2. Assign both products to the group

**Result:** If 2 customers book a "Relaxing Massage" at 2pm, there is only one spot left at 2pm for any type of massage.

### Important Notes

* A product can only belong to **one** resource group
* Products without a resource group don't benefit from automatic availability calculation
* Capacity applies **per time slot**

### Migration Note

  **For existing users:** If you previously used "capacity per slot" configured directly on each product, your data has been automatically migrated to individual resource groups. You can now group your products to share their capacity if needed.
